  • Open-mindedness in Politics

I was talking to a friend today and he was saying that he was republican because democrats are close-minded and hypocritical. They are never willing to listen to others' ideas. I was fine with that; that's his opinion. I might not agree, but whatever.

Then we started discussing politics. We discussed McCain and Obama's views on the GI bill and their plans for Iraq. We discussed abortion, because for some reason you mention politics, you get abortion. He and I have different views on most of this. The minute I suggested something that threatened his view of whatever we were discussing, I got attacked personally for not being right. I felt he was being close-minded, and not willing to listen to different ideas. He was being hypocritical of the democrats, exactly what he accused them of doing.

So, do you think democrats or republicans are more open-minded or willing to hear from the other side? Do you think a political group can be characterized by this, or do you think is based on the individual?

  • Why abortion?

Everyone on Xanga recently has posted an Abortion blog. Why? Is it because of the elections? Is abortion that big of a deal?

Honestly, why is everyone focused on abortion? Is it really that important? Shouldn't people be more focused on what is happening around the world? Maybe instead of arguing about abortion, we could find a solution for the war on "terrorism". Maybe instead of arguing about abortion, we could stop racism.

Abortion really only affects certain woman. Racism affects entire groups of people. Terrorism affects entire nations. So why not focus on things bigger than abortion. Why not focus on something that helps out entire societies?

    Just wondering....
